Presbyterian School academic teams advance to state

Four Odyssey of the Mind teams from Presbyterian Lower and Middle schools will advance to state finals.

They placed high in the March 3 Houston Area Regional Tournament for Odyssey of the Mind and will move on to the Texas State Finals tournament on April 14.

Placing first in its division was the seventh-grade team comprised of Julian Castro, Angelica Carrizal, Katherine Juden, Lauren Childers, Jessica Simon, Emma Shea and Abbey Rank.

Another seventh-grade team placed high in the competition. Julia Calaway, Kelsey McCollum, Emily Gonsoulin, Katie McCulloch, Christina Rockrise, Spencer Mclean and Marion Watkins earned fifth place.

The other winning teams are fifth-graders Pheobe Crow, Claire McNeill, Rachel Koch, Olivia Mandola, Arabel McFarland and Delaney Newsome, who placed fourth, and fourth-graders Adam Dunn, Ellie Beaver, Kameron Villafana, Thomas Minton, Amelia Williams and Sara Wheat, who placed fourth.

At the Houston area tournament, the teams had to solve spontaneous and long-term problems. Teams worked on solutions to the spontaneous problem at the competition. Teams had a year to figure out a solution to the long-term one, but they had only eight minutes to present the solution to a panel of judges.
