Athletes in action: Men's Baseball
John Cialone, a Villanova baseball player, went two-for-four and scored a run in a 13-10 loss to Binghamton University on Saturday.
A 2010 graduate of St. John's High School, Cialone earned four varsity letters on the diamond and set the school's career home run record with 29. He was team captain his junior and senior seasons while earning team MVP and All-Southwest Preparatory Conference honors both years. He batted .387 in 56 games as a junior and senior while recording a .550 on-base percentage and a .877 slugging percentage.
Before his senior season, Cialone was one of 16 players named to the preseason all-greater Houston team and earned second-team all-greater Houston, as well as earning two invitations to play in the Houston High School Baseball Coaches Association all-star game. Cialone also earned a spot in the 2010 Texas Private Schools all-star game. As a freshman and sophomore, Cialone was his team's defensive MVP. As a senior, he was finalist for a National Merit Scholarship. Cialone, the son of Joe and Brenda Cialone, majors in business.
Pat Young, a Villanova baseball pitcher, allowed three earned runs in two innings in the loss to Binghamton University.
A 2010 graduate of The Woodlands College Park High School, Young earned a pair of varsity letters as a pitcher, infielder and outfielder. As a senior, he earned first-team all-District 14-5A and first-team all-Houston honors after going 8-3 on the mound with a 1.89 ERA. Young pitched 63 innings allowing 56 hits and 17 earned runs while walking only 13 and striking out 74. He hit .325 with three home runs, 24 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Young, who turns 20 on March 24, is the son of George and Martha Young. He is in Villanova’s school of liberal arts at but has not declared a major.
